CARBON STEEL CASTING SERVICES

What are Carbon Steel Castings?

Carbon steel castings are components manufactured from carbon steel, where carbon is the primary alloying element. While containing small amounts of other elements like manganese, silicon, and copper, their presence is not significant. The properties of these castings are largely determined by the carbon content, leading to classifications of low, medium, and high carbon steels, each with varying hardness, strength, and ductility. Casting processes are frequently employed to efficiently produce complex shapes in carbon steel. Investment casting is one of the most widely used metal casting processes for producing complex, high-performance carbon steel parts.

Automated Wax Pattern Creation Process

For carbon steel investment castings, the quality of the final product begins with the wax pattern. At Taiyuan Simis, we understand this crucial link and utilize advanced, automated wax injection machines to create precise and consistent patterns. This automated process minimizes manual handling, reducing the risk of defects and ensuring that the final castings accurately reflect the intended design.

Advanced Shell Building Technique

Our innovative silica sol binder has significantly improved shell quality by increasing the melting point, preventing breakage during pouring. We use advanced automated shell building machines for carbon steel castings to achieve precision and consistency in shell creation. Our automated process allows precise control over each dipping and coating cycle, resulting in robust shells with optimal strength and integrity, even for complex and demanding designs. This ultimately leads to higher quality castings and reduced production variability.

Automated Controlled Drying System

Our unique shell-building formula and automated controlled drying system dramatically improve production efficiency for carbon steel castings by reducing shell drying time. Precise control of temperature, humidity, and airflow allows for uniform drying, prevents defects, and optimizes shell strength.

Our Carbon Steel Expertise

At Taiyuan Simis, we offer expertise in casting a broad spectrum of carbon steel grades using investment casting, sand casting and shell mold casting techniques, ensuring the optimal material selection for diverse applications.

  • Low-Carbon Steels (e.g., 1008, 1018, 1020, A36): We are capable of casting low-carbon steels, characterized by their low carbon content (typically less than 0.30%). This composition imparts excellent weldability, enabling easy joining through various welding techniques. These grades also exhibit good formability, allowing for shaping and bending without cracking. While their hardness and strength are lower compared to medium- and high-carbon steels, we can ensure good ductility and toughness in our low-carbon steel castings.
  • Medium-Carbon Steels (e.g., 1040, 1045, 1050, 1060): We routinely cast medium-carbon steels, which offer a balanced combination of strength, toughness, and wear resistance due to their medium carbon content (typically 0.30% to 0.60%). Our casting processes are optimized to handle these grades, which offer higher strength and hardness than low-carbon steels while maintaining reasonable machinability. We also offer heat treatment services to further enhance the mechanical properties of our medium-carbon steel castings, improving their hardness and wear resistance as needed.
  • High-Carbon Steels (e.g., 1070, 1080, 1095): We also have the capability to cast high-carbon steels, characterized by their high carbon content (typically 0.60% to 1.00% or higher). This composition results in high hardness, wear resistance, and strength. Our casting and heat treatment processes are designed to handle the specific challenges associated with these grades, which can be hardened significantly through heat treatment for applications requiring resistance to wear and abrasion. While these grades are less ductile and more difficult to weld compared to low- and medium-carbon steels, our expertise allows us to achieve high-quality castings even with these demanding materials.
