CARBON STEEL CASTING SERVICES

What is Carbon Steel Casting

Carbon steel is steel in which the main alloying element is carbon. It typically contains small amounts of other elements like manganese, silicon, and copper, but these are not added in significant quantities. The carbon content primarily determines the steel’s properties. Carbon steel is categorized into low, medium, and high carbon steels, each offering different levels of hardness, strength, and ductility. Carbon steel components are frequently manufactured through casting processes, which allow for the efficient production of complex shapes. Investment casting is one of the most widely used metal casting processes for producing complex, high-performance carbon steel parts. Automated Wax Pattern Creation Process

For carbon steel investment castings, the quality of the final product begins with the wax pattern. At Taiyuan Simis, we understand this crucial link and utilize advanced, automated wax injection machines to create precise and consistent patterns. This automated process minimizes manual handling, reducing the risk of defects and ensuring that the final castings accurately reflect the intended design.

Advanced Shell Building Technique

We have developed an advanced silica sol investment casting process for manufacturing carbon steel investment castings. Our innovative silica sol binder has significantly improved shell quality by increasing the melting point, preventing breakage during pouring. We employ advanced automated shell building machines for carbon steel castings to ensure precision and consistency in shell creation. This automated process allows for precise control over each dipping and coating cycle, resulting in robust shells with optimal strength and integrity, even for complex and demanding designs. This consistency translates to higher quality castings and reduced production variability.

Automated Controlled Drying System

The production of high-quality carbon steel castings depends on a robust and consistent shell-building process. At Taiyuan Simis, we’ve developed a unique shell-building formula that, combined with an automated controlled drying system, dramatically improves production efficiency. This innovative approach reduces the drying time for each shell layer from eight hours to just one hour.

By maintaining precise control over temperature, humidity, and airflow within the automated drying zones, we ensure uniform drying, prevent cracking and other defects, and optimize shell strength. This translates directly to improved dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and faster turnaround times for our carbon steel investment casting orders.

Rigorous Raw Castings Inspection

Thorough inspection of all raw carbon steel castings is a critical step in ensuring the integrity of our finished products. We employ a rigorous inspection process that includes visual inspections for surface defects, dimensional checks for accuracy, and non-destructive testing (NDT) as required. This proactive approach helps us identify and address potential issues early in the production process, preventing costly rework and ensuring the highest quality for our customers.

Our experienced machinists utilize advanced equipment, including CNC machining centers, lathes, and milling machines, to accurately and efficiently produce components to your exact specifications. We also provide a range of in-house treatments, such as heat treating and surface finishing, allowing us to tailor the mechanical properties and surface characteristics of the castings. This integrated approach ensures the highest quality and minimizes lead times.

Our Carbon Steel Expertise

At Taiyuan Simis, we offer expertise in casting a broad spectrum of carbon steel grades using investment casting, sand casting and shell mold casting techniques, ensuring the optimal material selection for diverse applications. Our capabilities include:

  • Low-Carbon Steels (e.g., 1008, 1018, 1020, A36): We are capable of casting low-carbon steels, characterized by their low carbon content (typically less than 0.30%). This composition imparts excellent weldability, enabling easy joining through various welding techniques. These grades also exhibit good formability, allowing for shaping and bending without cracking. While their hardness and strength are lower compared to medium- and high-carbon steels, we can ensure good ductility and toughness in our low-carbon steel castings.
  • Medium-Carbon Steels (e.g., 1040, 1045, 1050, 1060): We routinely cast medium-carbon steels, which offer a balanced combination of strength, toughness, and wear resistance due to their medium carbon content (typically 0.30% to 0.60%). Our casting processes are optimized to handle these grades, which offer higher strength and hardness than low-carbon steels while maintaining reasonable machinability. We also offer heat treatment services to further enhance the mechanical properties of our medium-carbon steel castings, improving their hardness and wear resistance as needed.
  • High-Carbon Steels (e.g., 1070, 1080, 1095): We also have the capability to cast high-carbon steels, characterized by their high carbon content (typically 0.60% to 1.00% or higher). This composition results in high hardness, wear resistance, and strength. Our casting and heat treatment processes are designed to handle the specific challenges associated with these grades, which can be hardened significantly through heat treatment for applications requiring resistance to wear and abrasion. While these grades are less ductile and more difficult to weld compared to low- and medium-carbon steels, our expertise allows us to achieve high-quality castings even with these demanding materials.

Using our industry-leading silica sol investment casting technique, we can cast carbon steel parts up to 50kg, achieving exceptional quality, integrity, and surface smoothness. This comprehensive material knowledge, combined with our casting expertise, enables us to provide tailored solutions for a wide range of industries.
